Erectile Dysfunction - Causes and Treatment

Sexual arousal in men is a very complex process that involves the brain, hormones, emotions, nerves, muscles and blood vessels. ED or erectile dysfunction can surface when there is a problem in one or several of these areas of the body.

Most of the time erectile dysfunction is caused from a physical problem with the body, but the brain does play a major role in triggering the events that lead to a healthy erection. So if a man is stressed, depressed or having relationship problems, this can lead to erectile dysfunction also. Sometimes there is even a combination of both physical and mental factors that are responsible for erectile dysfunction.

For example, maybe there was a time when a man had an ED problem because of a medication. This event could create performance anxiety for the man down the road even if he comes off of the medication. Some well known physical causes of erectile dysfunction are obesity, heart disease, diabetes, atherosclerosis, low testosterone and tobacco use to name a few.

So what are the treatments for this annoying problem that seems to effect so many men? Well, there are prescription medications that I'm sure we all know about. These are often times more expensive that natural alternatives and come with side effects. Safe and natural herbal supplements are not only great treatments for erectile dysfunction, but can also be healthy in other ways; such as improving circulation, supporting prostate health and strengthening blood vessels.

If you decide to go the natural route to treat your erectile dysfunction, always consult with your physician first and be sure to chose a product that has been on the market for a while and is manufactured by a reputable company. Remember too that just because a product is natural does not mean that it is always safe either. For example, yohimbe which is a very well known male enhancement herb has been known to cause increased heart rate, blood pressure issues and anxiety. So do a little research before trying anything, especially if you have a heart condition.
